Career Description

It goes without saying that the Air Force operates in an environment unlike any other, and therefore we need Fire Protection specialists unlike any others. In this field, you'll be trained to deal with everything from brush fires to burning rocket fuel and hazardous material fires. You'll also be stationed on an Air Force base using the latest equipment and will occasionally help out local civilian fire departments when needed. Fire Protection is intense but very rewarding as you'll not only be putting out fires, but you'll also be saving lives.

Career Tasks

• Receive Red Cross certification in standard first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
• Knowledgeable in the principles and operations of fighting building, aircraft, hazardous materials, wild land (grass, brush, forests, etc.) and miscellaneous fires (cars, dumpsters, etc.)
• Well-informed about all the vehicles, tools and equipment used to combat these fires
• Proficient in rescue principles and procedures involving various types of vehicles and structures and all the tools and equipment used in these rescue operations
• Educated in alarm center operations; care, use, and servicing of portable fire extinguishers; preventive and operator maintenance on firefighting apparatus and equipment; and the principles of fire inspections and investigations

Training

After eight-and-a-half weeks of Basic Military Training, every Airman goes to technical training to learn their career. Here's the basic information about Fire Protection technical training:
