Most Air Force bases are home to:

  • Restaurants
  • Clubs
  • Golf courses
  • Swimming pools
  • Tax-free shopping
  • Churches
  • Schools
  • Hospitals
  • Recreation centers
  • Parks

A City Created Just for You

Each Air Force base is a city created specifically for its citizens - Air Force personnel. In other words, everything you need to do your job and enjoy your free time is right on base. You may even choose to live on base in one of our dorms or family homes.

Air Force bases are most often located in beautiful and exciting locations. But if you're interested in tax-free shopping, team sports and relaxing in the pool, you'll find yourself spending extra time on base. Best of all, you'll find friends who know where you're coming from and like the same things you do.

During your time off, you can rent equipment from the base to use for camping, boating and enjoying the outdoors. There are even on-base hotels where friends and family can stay for a nominal fee. You can also take advantage of these affordable hotels when you and your family are traveling.

We Want You to Feel At Home.

As an enlisted member new to the Air Force, you will find the accommodations a lot like a college dorm. You'll have your own private room that you can personalize to your tastes, including a private bath, full-sized refrigerator and computer desk. In the common rooms, you can catch the game on the big-screen TV, hang with your friends or cook meals in the kitchen.

Houses on base are designed to meet the needs of growing families. Most residences feature attractive interiors, updated appliances, multiple bedrooms and baths and grassy backyards. Best of all, they're often within walking distance of schools, stores, playgrounds and community pools.

If you live off base, you'll have a housing allowance that will probably cover most of your rent. Many single enlisted members also find roommates to help share the rent on a bigger place.

No matter where you choose to live, you'll probably find yourself spending a lot of time on base, taking advantage of the tax-free shopping, discounted food and free medical care that will help lower your overall cost of living.

Your World of Opportunity

Be honest - travel is one of the main reasons you're considering the Air Force. And we don't blame you. After all, it's not easy to turn down the opportunity to travel the world for a nominal fee.

As a member of the Air Force, you'll enjoy 30 days of vacation with pay (civilian jobs usually offer 10 days) during which you can take advantage of available space on Air Force aircraft. You can fly to exotic destinations, including Italy, Australia, England, Germany, Japan and almost any state in the U.S.

If you're stationed internationally, your family will receive extensive aid to relocate. After they arrive, you can spend your free time together exploring your local area.

How do you want to play?

As an enlisted member, it's one of your duties to stay physically fit. Whether you're into team sports like basketball or football or enjoy working out solo in the gym or on the track, you'll find your activity on base.

Your base will probably offer:

  • Well-equipped gyms
  • World-class golf courses
  • Intramural leagues
  • Volleyball
  • Basketball
  • Football
  • Swimming pools
  • Squash courts
  • Bowling alleys

Your Family Away From Home

When you join the Air Force, you become part of a family. You commit to something bigger than yourself - an understanding support group that's second to none. Your spouse and children will also become part of the larger family on base. They'll enjoy access to a wide variety of valuable family benefits, programs and amenities, not to mention friendships with families who can help all of you become comfortable with your new way of life.

Family amenities may include:

  • Schools on base
  • Nearby public schools
  • Child-development centers
  • Childcare programs
  • Special needs aid
  • Medical facilities
  • Parks
  • Recreation centers
  • Swimming pools
